Cycling in the Pyrenees – September Tour (23rd – 30 September 2017) 700 Euros per person (based on 2 people sharing a room)

Enjoy the challenge of cycling in the Pyrénées from our beautiful house, ‘Le Closier’ perfectly located in the village of La Barthe de Neste, in the middle of the Pyrénées from where you can ride many of the iconic Tour de France cols (Col d’Aspin, Col de Tourmalet, etc.).

23rd – 30th Sept Provisional Itinerary – subject to weather.

Saturday Transfer from Toulouse – build bikes or adjust hired bikes – maybe time for short 1:5 hr local ride into the beautiful Barronies.
Sunday Guided ride directly from the house heading into the Val de Louron to Genos for coffee stop before climbing the 15 hairpins to the Col d’Azet – descend into St Lary soulan where you can find lunch.

After lunch return down the valley to the house.

Around 57 miles – 1595 mtrs
Monday Guided & vehicle supported ride directly from the house – following a section of the 2017 TDF route St Bertrand de Comminges, Col des Ares (Cat 2), Col de Buret and the Col de Mente (cat 1) before returning to the house.

Around 75 miles – 2,453 mtrs (7973 ft) climb
Tuesday Guided ride easier day in preparation for tomorrow – Local ride through sleepy villages approximately 30 miles.
Wednesday Guided & vehicle supported ride. There are two options dependent upon how you are feeling. You can choose to ride some or all of the route. The mini-bus will take everyone to Argeles-Gazost, and then ride up the gorge to Luz Saint-Saveur. Luz St Saveur is the start of the famous col de Tourmalet, and most will want to conquer this HC cat climb & then the long fast descent through the Mongie ski resort and into St Marie du Campan. You then continue onto the western climb of the Col’d’Aspin and down into the pretty village of Arreau. From here there are 2 options 1. Cycle back to the house or 2. continue through the village of Arreau and conquer the Peyresourde up to the Ski station which hosted the finish of stage 12 of the 2017 TDF. The route back to the house is a glorious 40kms of downhill back to Arreau and along the valley.

Option 1 =100 kms (62 miles) 2,691 mtrs of climb

Option 2 = 141 kms (87 miles) 3,742 mtrs of climb
Thursday Guided ride Rest/Easy day – Heading north into the rolling landscape.

Around 25 miles.
Friday Last day – return ride directly from the house taking in the impressive port de Bales and Peyresourde before dropping back into Arreau and home

70 miles 2,529 mtrs climbing.
Saturday Transfer to Toulouse airport for return flights.

What’s Included- price 700 euros per person (based upon 2 people sharing a room).

Transfers from Toulouse on Saturday 23rd September and Saturday 30th September.

7 Nights accommodation (2 sharing a room).

All rooms are en-suite. No bunk beds. Quiet village location from where most rides start and finish. Large house with very spacious communal areas and gardens.

Secure bike storage for bikes and bike boxes.

Hearty Breakfast, bananas to take with you, afternoon tea/coffee and home made cake each day. All evening meals provided with wine, beer or soft drinks. All non alcoholic drinks at any time of day included ie. water, tea, Coffee, fruit juices, fanta, orangena (except sports drinks – please bring your own High 5, MSN etc.)

Tried and tested rides in the beautiful Pyrénées, all rides are guided – an experienced guide will take you on each ride. Gpx/Garmin files provided.

3 of the longer rides will also be vehicle assisted carrying drinks, clothing and spares.
